CMBC Founder: Thanks for having us! We started CMBC out of a shared love for celebrity memoirs. We realized that celebrity stories—whether funny, heartwarming, or emotional—hold a special place in readers’ hearts. These memoirs give us a chance to connect with people we admire on a personal level. CMBC Founder: Great question! We try to find memoirs that offer a unique perspective. Whether it’s a story of overcoming adversity, a candid reflection on fame, or just a really funny behind-the-scenes look at life in the spotlight, we want books that give us something we didn’t already know. We love when the memoir feels honest and raw, even if it’s a little messy or controversial. That’s what makes reading them so exciting! Of course, there are some books that are just a fun, guilty pleasure—and we definitely love those too. So, it’s all about finding that balance.
SpotlightUs: You’ve mentioned that CMBC dives deep into these books. Can you tell us about some of the most memorable discussions you’ve had with your members?
CMBC Founder: Oh, there have been so many! One of the most memorable was when we discussed Carrie Fisher’s memoir, “Wishful Drinking”. It was such an honest, humorous look at her life, and we had such an amazing conversation about the complexities of her relationship with fame, addiction, and family. The way she wrote about her personal struggles in such a witty, unapologetic tone really resonated with a lot of our members. Another great one was Tina Fey’s “Bossypants”—it sparked a conversation about the pressure women face in comedy and entertainment, and how Tina has navigated those challenges with grace (and humor). These discussions are always so enriching because our members bring their own perspectives and insights to the table.

CMBC Founder: While there is definitely a fascination with the juicy details—who doesn’t want to know about a celebrity’s scandalous moment?—we think most readers are drawn to the vulnerability that comes with these stories. Celebrities are often seen as untouchable, and when they open up about their challenges, insecurities, or personal growth, it humanizes them. The memoirs that really stand out are the ones that show the person behind the public persona. That’s what makes these books so powerful: they give us a new way of seeing people who we thought we knew everything about. It’s less about the gossip and more about connecting with someone on a deeper level.

CMBC Founder: We have a lot of exciting things coming up! We’re currently planning a virtual event where we’ll be chatting with a few authors about their memoirs, and we can’t wait to bring that to our members. As for upcoming books, we’re diving into Meghan Markle’s “Spare”, which has sparked a lot of buzz, and we’re also keeping an eye on Dolly Parton’s upcoming memoir—her story is one that’s sure to be filled with wisdom, humor, and a whole lot of heart.
